Minimalism for middle school was a 10-week composition course that I taught at a private school in Boulder, Colorado. If you have time, listen to all three. They are really something. Check out the scores.
The students were allowed write any music that they could imagine. The only requirements were that their piece included the following elements a melodic structure, a rhythmic structure, graphic Notation and an element of chance. We spent a week or so studying each element.
After writing the piece, students to created a score. At the end the students learned, performed, and recorded each piece.
We can do great things if we do them together.
